준동사의 명사 역할 · 명사절

to부정사와 동명사가 문장에서 차지하는 자리를 확인합니다. 주어·목적어·보어 역할을 하는 준동사구 전체를 묶고, 준동사를 문장 전체의 정동사로 오인하지 않습니다. 동사별로 이어지는 준동사 형태와 그 행동의 의미상 주어를 확인합니다. 부정·완료·수동 형태, 원형부정사, 목적격보어의 to-v·v·v-ing·p.p.를 다루며 목적어와 보어 사이의 능동·수동 관계를 읽습니다.

• All that we are is the result of what we have thought: it is founded on our thoughts, it is made up of our thoughts.

  우리가 존재하는 모든 모습은 우리가 생각해 온 것의 결과다. 그것은 우리의 생각에 기초하고 우리의 생각으로 이루어진다.

• What ought to be done is neglected, what ought not to be done is done; the desires of unruly, thoughtless people are always increasing.

  해야 할 일은 소홀히 하고 하지 말아야 할 일은 행한다. 다스려지지 않고 경솔한 사람들의 욕망은 계속 커져 간다.

• Desire to have things done quickly prevents their being done thoroughly.

• Looking at small advantages prevents great affairs from being accomplished.

  작은 이익에만 눈을 두면 큰일을 이루는 데 방해가 된다.

• For this is your duty, to act well the part that is given to you; but to select the part, belongs to another.

  주어진 역할을 잘 연기하는 것이 네 의무이지만, 그 역할을 고르는 일은 다른 이에게 속한다.

• For it is in our power, as I said, to get out of the way, and to have no suspicion nor hatred.
